As we travel to more and more locations we are finding sometimes we want to mention a place but not as a *must-see* type of location, or perhaps other locations are absolute must-see type of places. In order to accommodate this type of recommendation system we have decided to establish a Jolly Nomads Rating Scheme.
This rating scheme is subject to refinement.
The following are the particulars of the Jolly Nomads Rating Scheme:
Rating Scale
★ – Basic Quality
A place that meets minimal expectations, providing essential services or experiences with limited attention to details or atmosphere.
★★ – Good Quality
A place that provides a solid, pleasant experience with good service and a few standout features, but lacks the refinement, consistency, or extraordinary elements that make it exceptional.
★★★ – Exceptional Quality
A place that provides an outstanding experience, excelling in every key aspect. The service, atmosphere, and offerings are superior, making it a highly memorable or unique experience.
★★★★ – Supreme Experience
A place that despite all other factors was such a great experience we highly recommend it as an absolute must if you are ever in the area. It is quite possible for a Jolly Nomads Four Star Supreme Experience rated location to have lower rating criteria but other factors supersede all and elevate it to a Jolly Nomads Four Star Supreme Experience.
Rating Criteria
Service Quality
★: Adequate service, minimal interaction, may lack personalization or attentiveness. Staff may be slow or indifferent, but basic needs are met.
★★: Good service with attentive staff who provide helpful and professional interaction. Occasional lapses in consistency, but generally positive.
★★★: Exceptional service with highly attentive, polite, and knowledgeable staff who anticipate needs. Flawless execution and memorable hospitality.
Atmosphere & Ambiance
★: Basic, functional setting, possibly outdated or lacking in décor. Little attention to mood, design, or comfort, but adequate for the purpose.
★★: Pleasant, clean, and thoughtfully designed with some attention to detail. Atmosphere is enjoyable and conducive to a positive experience.
★★★: A carefully crafted and immersive ambiance that elevates the experience. High-quality design elements, comfort, and a unique, memorable vibe.
Offerings & Features (e.g., food, exhibits, activities)
★: Basic offerings with little variety or uniqueness. Products or experiences may be generic, and quality may be inconsistent.
★★: A diverse selection of well-executed offerings. There may be a few standout features or unique elements, but the overall experience is solid, not extraordinary.
★★★: Exceptional offerings with a wide range of unique, high-quality items or activities. Consistent excellence and creativity throughout.
Cleanliness & Maintenance
★: Meets basic cleanliness standards, but there may be noticeable issues with upkeep or maintenance (e.g., dated furniture, dirty areas).
★★: Generally clean and well-maintained with attention to detail, but minor imperfections may exist.
★★★: Immaculate cleanliness and well-maintained throughout. Every area is carefully attended to, with no visible issues.
Value for Money
★: Offers fair value for the experience, but doesn’t exceed expectations. Pricing may be standard or a bit high for the quality delivered.
★★: Good value, with the quality of the experience generally aligning with the price. No major surprises in cost, and the experience feels fair.
★★★: Excellent value, where the experience significantly exceeds the cost. Whether luxury or budget, the price feels justified due to the exceptional quality.
Uniqueness / Charm
★: A standard, uninspiring experience that lacks individuality. Nothing about the place stands out in a meaningful way.
★★: A place with some unique or charming elements, whether in design, service, or offerings. While not extraordinary, there is a sense of personality or appeal.
★★★: Highly unique or charming, offering an experience that is difficult to find elsewhere. A strong sense of place, identity, or artistry that sets it apart.
