Located off of Kamehameha Highway in La’ie, and with other locations in Kahuku, Sharks Cove, and Hale’iwa, as well as locations in Utah and Arizona, Seven Brothers is a burger joint that came about from, as they say, “[when] a young Samoan surfer fell in love with a blonde hair, blue eyed California girl.”
We have a theory, and that is, if your basic namesake burger is decent, we will give you a green light to try your other burgers. So, the first on the plate is Seven Brothers’ “Seven Brothers Cheeseburger”. Their over-descriptive website menu describes this burger as, “with delightfully melted cheese.” It is a basic cheese hamburger. The first time we tried this, it was deemed great, but lacking something. The bread held together well, the flavor was intense and satisfying after hours at the beach. But what exactly was it missing? We ate, each of us enjoying our own choices (Keep the Country, Country (Veg) was one, Deep Blue another, and the Shem Burger). After a healthy internal journey as to what the Seven Brothers Cheeseburger needed to push into the top tier of burgers it was decided. The next time we went to the La’ie Seven Brothers the Seven Brothers Cheeseburger was ordered with an extra patty. This was exactly what this burger needed, as their patties have a great taste but they are on the thinner side, and making it a double was the right choice. From now on, we will make `em doubles.
We enjoyed the Vanilla Milk Shake. It was not the most amazing milk shake but it was good enough for us to order each time we visited. Their Home Fries (wedge fries) were also a worthy side, although during one visit we had five people at our table and one of us had the super crispy nearly burned fries, which we softened with their ranch dressing and their own house sauce (we probably could have asked them to exchange the crispy fries for fresher softer fries).
The Keep the Country, country (Veg) burger is grilled pineapple, sauteed mushroom, melted swiss cheese, fresh avocado, homemade onion ring with house sauce. This was so delicious and was tilting the scale towards something to be craved. Definitely something vegetarians should try.
The Shem Burger has fresh homemade guacamole, two crispy strips of bacon and melted American cheese and house sauce with a single patty. As we mentioned above, go ahead and make this a double patty and your mouth and belly will thank you.
The Deep Blue burger has crumbled blue cheese melted on patty, topped with two crispy strips of bacon, Swiss cheese, BBQ sauce, house sauce and ranch with a single patty. Same recommendation here, make it a double.
Overall we loved Seven Brothers La’ie and have added it to our list of places to visit whenever we are in Oahu.
